Fixing day - How to shorten sleeves

I have a huge bag at home full of clothes that need fixing, and I always put it away because it's way more fun to concentrate on new projects rather than to fix the old ones. But it is also very sad not to wear the items you took a long time to make, so I decided to have a fixing day !

I knitted this raglan sweater a few years back for my girlfriend. She wore it a few times, but the sleeves were always too long. 

As the sweater is in reverse stockinette, I figured I could just fold them and sew them to make a stockinette hem. Here is how I did it :

J'ai un grand sac à la maison pleins de vêtements en attente de réparation, et je les met toujours de côté parce que c'est beaucoup plus fun de se concentrer sur les nouveaux projets plutôt que de réparer les anciens. Mais c'est aussi très triste de ne pas porter ces vêtements qu'on a pris si longtemps à fabriquer, alors j'ai décidé de faire une journée réparations !

J'ai tricoté ce pull raglan il y a quelques années pour ma copine. Elle l'a porté plusieurs fois, mais les manches ont toujours été trop longues.

Comme le pull est en jersey envers, je me suis dit que je pourrais juste faire un ourlet pour obtenir une jolie bordure en jersey endroit. Voilà comment j'ai fait :

I used about 3 yards /2.5 meters of yarn in about the same color as the sweater, a few pins, scissors and a wool needle
J'ai utilisé environ 3 yards/2.5 mètres de laine d'une couleurs similaire à celle du pull, quelques épingles, des ciseaux et une aiguille à coudre la laine

I measured the size I needed for the hem
J'ai mesuré la taille qu'il me fallait pour l'ourlet

Put pins all around
Mis des épingles tout autour

I threaded the yarn into my wool needle
J'ai inséré la laine dans mon aiguille à laine

Went to the back and joined the yarn around the stitch where I would start
Sur l'arrière j'ai fait un noeud avec la laine autour de la maille où j'aillais commencer

I inserted the needle in the first cast off stitch from back to front
J'ai inséré l'aiguille dans la première maille rabattue d'arrière en avant

Then into the sleeve stitch just facing and brought it to the back, making a whip stitch for a solid and pretty seam
Et ensuite dans la maille de la manche juste en face, ramenant l'aiguille à l'arrière de l'ouvrage et formant ainsi un point surjeté, pour une couture jolie et solide

I did that all around the sleeve
J'ai fait ça tout autour de la manche

To save time, I took the stitch from the sleeve and the one from the hem at the same time
Pour gagner du temps, j'ai pris la maille de la manche et celle de la bordure en même temps

At the end, I tied a knot between my working yarn and the first knot yarn
A la fin, j'ai fait un noeud avec mon fil de l'ouvrage et le fil du premier noeud

I cut yarn
J'ai coupé la laine

Weaved in ends
Rentré les fils

And tadaa ! A pretty hem in stockinette !
Et tadaa ! Une jolie bordure en jersey !

The sleeves are now the perfect lenght !
Les manches ont maintenant une parfaite longueur !

For my next fixing day, I have a knitted skirt which elastic broke, a shirt that needs new buttons, a jacket with a hole in its pocket, and my knitted Campus Jacket that needs new toggles. A lot of work in perspective ! But for now, I'll get back to my knitting and my newest cable design I showed you in my last post.

Pour ma prochaine journée réparation, j'ai une jupe tricotée qui a un élastique cassé, une chemise qui a besoin de nouveaux boutons, une veste avec un trou dans la poche, et ma Campus Jacket tricotée qui a besoin de nouvelles fermetures. Beaucoup de travail en perspective ! Mais pour l'instant je vais retourner à mon tricot et à mon dernier design torsadé que je vous ai montré dans mon dernier post.
