FO Beatnik - Irish sweater

I finished my Beatnik sweater a few weeks ago, just in time for christmas. I love the pattern, it's easy to follow and the cables have a very rich texture. I used Soft Donegal yarn that my sister brought me back from Dublin and I fell in love with its softness and tweeded look.

This knit really inspired me. Next week-end I'll be in Dublin myself and I'll bring back tons of irish yarns and cable ideas, and my goal for the beginning of 2016 is to design my own irish sweater !

J'ai fini mon pull Beatnik il y a plusieurs semaines, juste à temps pour Noël. J'adore le modèle, il est facile à suivre et les torsades one une très riche texture. J'ai utilisé de la laine Soft Donegal que ma soeur m'a ramené de Dublin et je suis tombée amoureuse de sa douceur et de son aspect tweedé.

Ce tricot m'a vraiment inspirée. Le week-end prochain, je serai à Dublin aussi et je ramènerai des tonnes de laines irlandaises et d'idées de torsades. Mon but pour début 2016 : créer mon propre pull irlandais !

Alegria Yoke Pullover

My second project finished in this GAL 2015 is this lovely sweater. The pattern is Alegria Yoke Pullover, by Marcela Chang.

I used some Drops Merino Extra Fine in light beige-grey, with the yoke and bind-offs in turquoise and pale yellow. The yarn grew a lot after washing, but I had anticipated by knitting the smaller size and making the body and sleeves way less long that what they should be so now they are perfect.

It is a very nice pattern. I really enjoy knitting color yokes (I'm a huge icelandic sweater fan). This one is knitted from the top, so the neck is just the right size. I didn't do a provisional cast on and started with the neck band right away to save some time.

What I most loved about this pattern was the two-color i-cord bind-off. It's very fun to knit and the result is amazing ! I also love how the two-colors in the yoke create some sort of optical illusion.

Mon deuxième projet de ce GAL 2015 est ce joli pull. Le modèle est Alegria Yoke Pullover, de Marcela Chang.

J'ai utilisé de la laine Drops Merino Extra Fine en beige-gris, avec le yoke et les bordures en turquoise et jaune pâle. La laine s'est beaucoup étendue au lavage, mais j'avais anticipé en tricotant la plus petite taille et en faisant le buste et les manches beaucoup plus courts qu'ils ne devaient l'être, donc maintenant ils sont parfaits.

C'est un modèle très chouette. J'adore tricoter les yoke colorés (Je suis une grande fan des pulls islandais). Celui-ci est tricoté de haut en bas, ce qui fait que le col a pile la bonne taille. Je n'ai pas fait de montage provisoire de mailles et j'ai commencé directement avec le col pour gagner du temps.

Ce que j'ai le plus adoré dans ce modèle c'est la bordure i-cord avec deux couleurs. C'est très sympa à tricoter et le résultat est superbe ! J'adore aussi la manière dont les deux couleurs du yoke se mélangent pour créer une sorte d'illusion d'optique.

GAL 2015 - Designer Marcela Chang

This is the first thing that I've decided to knit during this GAL. I went stash busting and already found most of the yarn I need. It's Drops Merino Extra Fine in a light grey. I just ordered a few skeins of the same yarn in blue and a pale yellow to make the yoke. I'm very exciting about this knit ! Now I just need to wait for the yarn and for the beginning of the GAL to cast on. And I still have an Irish sweater to finish before all that, so I'm off to my knitting !

J'adore particulièrement son Alegria Yoke Pullover, un pull avec un col en yoke multicolor.

C'est la première chose que j'ai décidé de tricoter pendant le GAL. Je suis allée fouiller dans mes malles de laine, et j'ai trouvé presque toute la laine dont j'ai besoin : 9 pelotes de Drops Merino Extra Fine dans un gris clair. Et je viens juste de commander plusieurs autres pelotes de la même laine en bleu et jaune pâle pour faire le col. J'ai hâte de m'y mettre ! Je dois juste attendre que ma laine arrive et que le GAL soit officiellement commencé pour démarrer. Et j'ai accessoirement un pull irlandais à finir avant tout ça, alors je vais me remettre illico à mon tricot !

N'oubliez pas de regarder tous les superbes modèles de Marcela Chang, la plupart seront en solde pendant le GAL.

Beatnik - Cable Sweater in Soft Donegal - Pull à torsades

Last summer, my sister went to Ireland and brought me a ton of beautiful irish yarns. I recently decided that I should do something with it and chose a cable sweater : Beatnik by Norah Gaughan, a free pattern published on Knitty.

I'm almost done with the back and I love it so much already ! It is a very interesting knit and the pattern goes perfectly with the Soft Donegal Yarn. Unfortunately, my sister was so overwelmed in the yarn shop in Dublin with all the beautiful yarns that she couldn't chose only one colorway, and I don't have enough yarn to make the sweater all in white. I have however three skeins of a beautiful beige and I am contemplating the possibility of making contrasting sleeves. Otherwise I will have to wait for my own trip to Dublin in January to buy the few missing skeins.

L'été dernier, ma soeur est allée en Irlande et m'a ramené une tonne de superbes laines irlandaises. Je me suis dit récemment qu'il fallait que je songe à en faire quelque chose, et j'ai alors choisi un pull à torsades : Beatnik de Norah Gaughan, un modèle gratuit publié sur Knitty (en anglais).

J'ai presque fini le dos et je l'adore déjà ! C'est un tricot très intéressant et la laine Soft Donegal va parfaitement avec le modèle. Malheureusement, ma soeur ne savait pas où donner de la tête dans le magasin à Dublin avec tant de belles laines, et elle n'a pas pu choisir une seule couleur. Je n'ai donc pas assez de laine pour faire le pull tout en blanc. J'ai en revanche trois écheveaux d'un beau beige et j'envisage la possibilité de tricoter des manches contrastantes. Sinon je vais devoir attendre mon propre voyage à Dublin en janvier prochain pour acheter les quelques pelotes manquantes.

I love Icelandic pullovers, they knit up so quickly, especially in Alafoss lopi, and then there is absolutely no seam, only ends to weave in. Plus they look so good !

Lilas chose the colors, and they are perfect together.

In the original pattern, there is an asymmetric neck band and a collar, but I decided to make it a normal ribbed round neck, Lilas prefers it that way.

This was a very fun knit, I should definitely knit icelandic sweaters more often !

J'adore les pulls islandais, ils se tricotent tellement rapidement, surtout en Alafoss lopi, et ensuite il n'y a aucune couture, juste quelques fils à rentrer. Et ils sont trop beaux !
Lilas a choisi les couleurs, elles sont parfaites ensembles.
Dans le modèle, il y a un col avec une bande assymétrique, mais j'ai décidé de faire un simple col rond en côtes, et Lilas le préfère comme ça.
C'était fun à tricoter, je devrais faire des pulls islandais plus souvent !

Cabled crewneck pullover

This is my last knit ! Cabled crewneck pullover made in Dolce di luce 3 fils.

It was a really nice knit, the sleeves are quite big, but it's a big cosy pullover anyway.

Now, I'm working on some socks for my sister's christmas, and I'm starting planning other christmas gifts too. I might knit a bit on my Kimmswick if I'm in a stranded knitting mood.

Voilà mon dernier tricot ! C'était sympathique à tricoter, facile, pas trop ennuyeux. Les manches sont un peu grandes, mais c'est un gros pull tout doux de toute façon alors ce n'est pas trop grave.

Maintenant, je tricote des chaussettes pour le noël de ma soeur et je commence à planifier tous les cadeaux. J'avancerai peut-être aussi un peu mon Kimmswick si je suis d'humeur jacquard.

Projets en cours / Work in progress

Mon temps de tricot a été assez limité ces derniers temps. J'ai passé tout l'été à finir mon mémoire, et ai eu peu de temps pour préparer l'hiver et mes nouveaux modèles. Mais maintenant, mon master arrive à sa fin, et ne pourrai de toute façon pas faire de stage avant le mois de mars, donc je vais avoir tout l'hiver pour me consacrer au tricot !

Voici ce qui traîne sur mes aiguilles :

My knitting time has been quite limited these past few months. I spent all summer writing my master thesis, and I didn't have much time to prepare for winter and to create new patterns. But now that my master is over, and because I won't be able to do another internship before march, I will have all winter to knit and design !

Here's what's on my needle :

Cabled crewneck pullover pour Lilas. Je le tricote en Dolce di luce, une laine de Luce Laine Tricot que j'adore. Elle est 70% mérinos, 30% angora, donc très douce, mais solide, avec un grand choix de couleurs et à un prix très raisonable. Le modèle en lui-même est assez facile à tricoter et plutôt original avec du point de riz entre les torsades, et juste quand je commençais à m'ennuyer, je suis arrivée aux manches qui adoptent une construction que je n'avais jamais expérimentées. Le pull est tricoté à plat, puis on joint les épaules et les manches sont tricotées depuis les épaules, à plat, en relevant des mailles. J'avais déjà fait ce genre de constructions en rond, mais jamais à plat. Seul bémol, les manches semblent extrèmement larges par rapport au reste du pull, et j'ai du resserer les dernières diminutions pour qu'elles ne soient pas trop longues.

Cables crewneck pullover for my girlfriend Lilas. The yarn is Dolce di luce, from a french brand Luce Laine Tricot. It's 70% mérinos, 30% angora. I love it. First, it's very soft, it has a great stitch definition, the color choice is amazing and the price very reasonable. The pattern is very simple, but quite original with seed stitch between cables. The sweater is knitted flat, then the shoulder are joined and the sleeves knitted from the top, flat, by picking up stitches. I already used that kind of construction in the round, but never flat so it was quite interesting. But I'm afraid the sleeves are quite big compared to the body, and I had to change the last decreases so they wouldn't be to long.

J'ai encore la deuxième manche à tricoter, le col, et l'assemblage qui ne devrait pas prendre trop de temps. Mais je me suis laissée distraire par un nouveau projet, un nouveau modèle fait en Cascade Heritage Silk et inspirée de Monica Vitti dans le film L'Eclisse d'Antonioni, un de mes films préférés.

I still have the other sleeve to knit, the neck and assembling shouldn't take too much time, but I got caught up in another project made in Cascade Heritage Silk and inspired by Monica Vitti in the movie L'Eclisse by Antonioni, one of my favorite movies ever.
